Non-invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) is a long-sought goal. For decades, researchers have been trying to develop effective ways to isolate, purify and identify the few fetal cells present in the maternal circulation, at a concentration of about one to six fetal cells per millilitre of maternal blood.1
