Ambroxol HCl
Indications/Uses
Secretolytic therapy. Acute & chronic bronchopulmonary diseases associated w/ abnormal mucus secretion & impaired mucus transport.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 1 tab tid, may be increased to 2 tab bid. Infant drops Childn 13-24 mth 1.25 mL bid or 15 mg/day, 7-12 mth 1 mL bid or 12 mg/day, ≤6 mth 0.5 mL bid or 6 mg/day. Soln for inhalation Adult & childn >5 yr 1-2 inhalation of 2-3 mL soln daily, <5 yr 1-2 inhalation of 2 mL soln daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption; fructose intolerance.
Special Precautions
Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis. Discontinue use if new skin mucosal lesions occur. Impaired renal function. Pregnancy (1st trimester) & lactation. Tab: Contains lactose. Oral drops: Contains sorbitol.
Adverse Reactions
Tab: Immune system, skin & SC tissue disorders; anaphylactic reactions eg, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, rash, urticaria, pruritus & other hypersensitivity; GI disorders (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia & abdominal pain). Oral drops: Immune system, skin & SC tissue disorders; anaphylactic reactions eg, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, rash, urticaria, pruritus & other hypersensitivity; nervous system disorders; dysgeusia; GI, resp, mediastinal & thoracic disorders; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia & abdominal pain; oral & pharyngeal hypoaesthesia, dry mouth & throat.
