Indications/Uses
Semi-elemental hypoallergenic formula for the dietary management of infants with gastrointestinal-related food intolerance eg, cow's milk and soy protein allergy, severe diarrhea and malnutrition from birth onwards.
Dosage/Direction for Use
The physician should calculate the desired total daily intake of energy, water and electrolytes for each infant. Initial feedings should be more diluted with a progression to full strength (14.2% solution) over a period of 4 days.
In the absence of medical advice, the following may be useful as a guide: Infants 5-7 months* 7 scoops to 210 mL previously boiled water 5 times daily (5 months), 4-3 times daily (7 months). 3-4 months: 6 scoops to 180 mL previously boiled water 5 times daily. 2 months: 5 scoops to 150 mL previouly boiled water 5 times daily. 3-4 weeks: 4 scoops to 120 mL previously boiled water 5 times daily. 1-2 weeks: 3 scoops to 90 mL previously boiled water 6 times daily.
Use only the enclosed scoop. Average scoop weight is 4.73 g. Using more or less powder than indicated will either lead to dehydration or deprive the baby of proper nutrition. Do not change proportions without medical advice.
*Do not introduce other food in baby's diet without asking the doctor.
Administration: Preparation: Wash hands before preparing infant's formula. Wash bottle, teat and cap thoroughly until no milk remains. Boil for 5 min. Leave covered until use. Boil drinking water for 5 min; allow to cool. Pour exact amount of lukewarm water (40°C) into boiled bottle. Only use scoop from the can and level using special leveler of can opening. Add exact number of level scoops for the age of the baby. Replace lid firmly. Shake bottle vigorously until powder is fully dissolved. Feed immediately. Close the can tightly after each use and store it in a cool and dry place before and after opening.
Special Precautions
Breast milk is the best for babies. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and should be continued for as long as possible. Unnecessary introduction of bottle feeding or other food and drinks should be discharged since it will have a negative impact on breastfeeding. Consult the physician for advice if unable to breastfeed.
