Nitrazepam
Indications/Uses
Treatment of insomnia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 5-10 mg. Elderly 2.5-5 mg. To be taken at bedtime.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe & chronic lung disease (eg, chronic obstructive airway disease) & difficulty breathing; severe liver disease. Childn.
Special Precautions
Liver, kidney or lung disease, high or low BP, glaucoma, myasthenia gravis; depression, psychosis or schizophrenia; epilepsy, fits or convulsions. Avoid alcohol intake, long-term intake (>2-4 wk), abrupt w/drawal in patient w/ epilepsy. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, unsteadiness when walking, impairment of memory, headache, hangover feeling in the morning, slurred speech, clumsiness, numbed emotions, reduced alertness, muscle weakness, double vision, inattention, unpleasant dreams, recurrence of insomnia.
Drug Interactions
Other sleeping tab, sedatives or tranquilisers, medicines for depression, medicines for epilepsy, antihistamines, muscle relaxants, pain relievers, cimetidine, disulfiram.
