Indications/Uses
Antibiotic prophylaxis of post-op endophthalmitis after cataract surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Intracameral Adult Slowly inj 0.1 mL of the reconstituted soln.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Cross-reactions may occur in patients w/ history of allergic reaction to penicillins or any other β-lactam antibiotics. Consider alternative prophylactic antibiotic in patients at risk for infections w/ resistant strains eg, those w/ known previous MRSA infection or colonisation. Potential risk of corneal endothelial toxicity. Patients w/ severe risk of infection; complicated cataracts; severe thyroid disease; <2,000 corneal endothelial cells; patients having combined operations w/ cataract surgery. Paed population.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactic reaction (very rare). Macular oedema (not known).
