Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & treatment of chronic asthma, symptomatic relief of seasonal & perennial allergic rhinitis in adults & childn ≥15 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab once daily preferably in the evening.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken in the evening.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks including status asthmaticus. Not to be abruptly substituted for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Not for monotherapy for treatment & management of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Avoid aspirin & NSAIDs. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Increased bleeding tendency; anaphylaxis, hepatic eosinophilic infiltration; dream abnormalities, depression, insomnia; dizziness, drowsiness, paraesthesia/hypoesthesia, seizure; palpitations; diarrhoea, dry mouth, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting; elevated serum transaminases, cholestatic hepatitis; angioedema, bruising, urticaria, pruritus, rash; arthralgia, myalgia including muscle cramps; asthenia/fatigue, malaise, oedema.
Drug Interactions
Decreased AUC w/ phenobarb. Phenytoin, rifampicin.
ATC Classification
R03DC03 - montelukast ; Belongs to the class of leukotriene receptor antagonists. Used in the systemic treatment of obstructive airway diseases.
