Human prothrombin complex (PCC)
Indications/Uses
Treatment & perioperative prophylaxis of bleedings in acquired deficiency of the prothrombin complex coagulation factors; congenital deficiency of any of the vit K dependent coagulation factors when purified specific coagulation factor products are not available.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Known history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. In the case of disseminated intravascular coagulation, prothrombin complex prep may only be applied after termination of the consumptive state.
Special Precautions
In patients w/ acquired deficiency of vit K-dependent coagulation factors, only use when rapid correction of the prothrombin complex levels is necessary. Patients receiving a vit K antagonist may have an underlying hypercoaguable state. Stop immediately if allergic or anaphylactic-type reactions occur. Risk of thrombosis or disseminated intravascular coagulation. Close monitoring to patients w/ a history of coronary heart disease or MI, liver disease, per- or post-op, neonates, patients at risk of thromboembolic phenomena or disseminated intravascular coagulation or simultaneous inhibitor deficiency. Development of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, type II. Nephrotic syndrome. Patients on a controlled Na diet. Possibility of passing on infection cannot be totally excluded. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent.
Adverse Reactions
Thromboembolic events; increased body temp; headache.
Drug Interactions
Neutralizes the effect of vit K antagonist.
