Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Relieves mild to moderate pain including toothache, period pains & pains associated w/ the joints & muscles. Reduces fever & other symptoms of colds & flu.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended dose: Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 or 2 cap. Max of 8 cap in 24 hr. Childn 7-12 yr 0.5-1 cap. Max of 4 cap in 24 hr. Doses are to be taken every 4-6 hr if necessary.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to paracetamol including potato starch, pregelatinised starch, purified talc, povidone, stearic acid, Na starch glycollate, nipasept, methylhydroxybenzoate, propylhydroxybenzoate, Mg stearate.
Special Precautions
Do not use for >48 hr at a time unless advised by the physician. Do not use together w/ other paracetamol-containing products. Childn <7 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Changes in blood cells; rash; worsening of asthma. Kidney problem when used over a long time.
Drug Interactions
INH; carbamazepine, phenobarb, phenytoin, primodone, lamotrigine; metoclopramide, domperidone; OC, hormonal implants, HRT; warfarin & coumarin medicines; probenecid; diflunisal; cholestyramine.
