Indications/Uses
Mild or moderately severe uncomplicated maturity-onset DM unresponsive to diet alone.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 5 mg/day, max: 15 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Burns, diabetic coma, severe infection, type 1 DM, ketosis, ketoacidosis, major surgery, severe trauma; renal or hepatic impairment, thyroid or adrenal dysfunction. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Monitor glucose urine & ketone tests. Obese patients.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, dizziness, weakness, paraesthesia, sensitivity reactions; prolonged hypoglycaemia.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, oral anticoagulants, oxyphenbutazone, phenylbutazone, alcohol; corticosteroids, epinephrine, phenytoin, thiazide diuretics, thyroid hormones, β-adrenergic blockers.
