Indications/Uses
Relief of pain in acute gout; polyarthritis associated w/ sarcoidosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 1 mg then 500 mcg 2-3 hrly until relief is obtained. Prophylaxis: 500 mcg bd or tds.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Elderly & debilitated patients, cardiac or GI disease, renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, reversible muscular weakness, urticaria, dermatitis, purpura. Rarely, hypersensitivity.
ATC Classification
M04AC01 - colchicine ; Belongs to the class of preparations with no effect on uric acid metabolism. Used in the treatment of gout.
