Hyoscine butylbromide
Indications/Uses
Treatment of conditions associated w/ visceral spasms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 20 mg, childn >6 yr 10 mg. Doses are to be taken qds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to atropine or other belladona alkaloids. Prostate enlargement; paralytic ileus or pyloric stenosis; closed-angle glaucoma or narrow-angle between the iris & the cornea. Hyperpyrexia.
Special Precautions
Spastic paralysis or brain damage. Precipitate unrecognized glaucoma in patients >40 yr. Tolerance development. Hyperthyroidism; cardiac insufficiency or failure; asthma; Down's syndrome, myasthenia gravis, ulcerative colitis, urinary retention; reflux esophagatis; GIT obstructive disease; autonamic neuropathy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dryness of mouth; increased IOP; decreased sweating; constipation; drowsiness.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effect w/ amantadine, some atihistamines; butyrophenones & phenothiazines & tricyclic antidepressants. Alcohol or other CNS depressants; codeine or methadone; corticosteroids or haloperidol; guanethedine or reserpine; MAOIs; sympathomimetics.
