Indications/Uses
NIDDM not responding to dietary modification.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Tab 500 mg bd-tds, up to 3 g/day. Retard tab 850 mg bd, up to 3 g/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Retard tab: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Tab Impaired hepatic or renal function, CV collapse, CHF, acute MI or other conditions leading to hypotension or hypoxaemia, DM complicated by acidosis, infection or gangrene, surgery, pregnancy. Retard tab Heart failure, dehydration, acute or chronic alcoholism, lactic acidosis, diabetic coma, ketoacidosis, renal impairment, chronic liver disease, pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Monitor renal function regularly. Stop therapy 2-3 days before surgery & clinical investigations. Conditions which may cause dehydration; serious infections, trauma.
Adverse Reactions
Anorexia, nausea & diarrhoea; impaired absorption of substances eg, vit B12; metallic taste, wt loss; lactic acidosis.
Drug Interactions
Sulphonylureas, cimetidine, anticoagulants.
