Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: In animal studies, glucocorticoids have been shown to cause malformations of various types (cleft palate, skeletal malformations), but these experimental results in animals do not appear to have any relevance in humans. After long-term treatment, reduced placental and birth weights have been established in humans and animals. In addition, in cases of long-term treatment there is a risk of adrenocortical suppression in the newborn child. Therefore corticosteroids should only be given during pregnancy after special consideration.
Lactation: Budesonide is secreted in breast milk, but no effects on the nursing child are expected at therapeutic doses.
