Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Known, suspected or history of breast cancer; known, suspected or history of oestrogen-sensitive cancer eg, endometrial cancer; unexpected vag bleeding; untreated endometrial hyperplasia; thrombosis eg, DVT or pulmonary embolism; blood clotting disorder eg, protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency; known or recent disease caused by arterial blood clots eg, heart attack, stroke or angina; liver disease & liver function tests have not returned to normal; porphyria.
Premature menopause. Use cautiously in patients w/ fibroids inside the womb; endometriosis or history of endometrial hyperplasia; increased risk of blood clots; increased risk of oestrogen-sensitive cancer; HTN; liver disorder eg, benign liver tumour; diabetes; gallstones; migraine or severe headaches; autoimmune disorders eg, SLE; epilepsy; asthma; otosclerosis; hypertriglyceridemia; fluid retention due to cardiac or kidney problems. Discontinue use in case of jaundice; HTN; migraine-like headaches occurring for the 1st time; pregnancy; signs of blood clots eg, painful swelliing & redness of legs, sudden chest pain & difficulty in breathing. Increased risk of memory loss in women >65 yr. May affect results of some laboratory tests. Lactose intolerance.
