Indications/Uses
Replenish body Fe stores & remedy anaemia in patients w/ Fe deficiency when oral Fe prep are ineffective or cannot be used.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV By inj/infusion: Up to 20 mL (corresponding to 1,000 mg Fe) once a wk. By dialysis: Administer during haemodialysis session via dialyser.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ferric carboxymaltose or other injectable Fe prep. Non-Fe deficiency anaemia. Fe overload or utilisation disturbances.
Special Precautions
Incorrect administration may cause leakage at inj site & lead to skin irritation & potentially long-lasting brown discolouration at inj site; immediately stop administration when this occurs. Patients w/ history of medicine allergy; SLE; RA; severe asthma, eczema or other allergies; infection; liver disorders. Patients on Na-controlled diet. Pregnancy & lactation. Should not be given to childn <14 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, high BP, nausea & inj site reactions; decreased blood P & increased ALT.
Drug Interactions
Potentially less efficient oral Fe prep if concomitantly used w/ Ferinject.
