Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency w/o anaemia (latent Fe deficiency) & Fe deficiency w/ anaemia (manifest Fe deficiency).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Chewable tab Fe deficiency w/ anaemia Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 1 tab once daily to tds for 3-5 mth until normalisation of Hb value is achieved. Then, continue w/ 1 tab daily for several wk to replenish Fe stores. Pregnant women 1 tab bd-tds until normalisation of Hb value is achieved. Then, continue w/ 1 tab daily at least until the end of pregnancy to replenish Fe stores. Fe deficiency w/o anaemia Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 1 tab daily. Pregnant women 1 tab daily. Drops Fe deficiency w/ anaemia Therapy takes about 3-5 mth until Hb value normalisation is achieved. Then, continue therapy for several wk, or for pregnant women, at least until the end of pregnancy w/ dosage described for Fe deficiency w/o anaemia to replenish Fe stores. Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 40-120 drops daily. Childn 1-12 yr 20-40 drops daily. Infants <1 yr 10-20 drops daily. Premature births 1-2 drops/kg daily. Pregnant women 80-120 drops daily. Fe deficiency w/o anaemia Therapy takes about 1-2 mth. Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 20-40 drops daily. Childn 1-12 yr 10-20 drops daily. Infant <1 yr 6-10 drops daily. Pregnant women 40 drops daily. Prophylactic therapy (RDA) Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 4-6 drops daily. Childn 1-12 yr 4-6 drops daily. Infant <1 yr 2-4 drops daily. Pregnant women 20-40 drops daily. Syr Fe deficiency w/ anaemia Therapy takes about 3-5 mth until Hb value normalisation is achieved. Then, continue therapy for several wk, or for pregnant women, at least until the end of pregnancy w/ dosage described for Fe deficiency w/o anaemia to replenish Fe stores. Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 10-30 mL daily. Childn 1-12 yr 5-10 mL daily. Infants <1 yr 2.5-5 mL daily. Pregnant women 20-30 mL daily. Fe deficiency w/o anaemia Therapy takes about 1-2 mth. Adult, childn >12 yr & nursing mothers 5-10 mL daily. Childn 1-12 yr 2.5-5 mL daily. Pregnant women 10 mL daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take during or immediately after a meal. May be mixed w/ fruit or vegetable juices/other liqd/bottle-feed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Fe overload (eg, haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis) or disturbances in Fe utilisation (eg, lead anaemia, sideroachrestic anaemia, thalassaemia) & anaemia not caused by Fe deficiency (eg, haemolytic anaemia).
Special Precautions
Diabetic patients. Patients w/ anaemia due to infections or malignancy.
Adverse Reactions
Very rarely, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, gastric disorders, indigestion (dyspepsia), vomiting, rash (urticaria, exanthema, pruritus).
