Beclometasone dipropionate 100 mcg, formoterol fumarate dihydrate 6 mcg
Regular treatment of asthma where use of a combination product is appropriate: For patients not adequately controlled w/ inhaled corticosteroid & 'as needed' inhaled rapid-acting β2-agonists; or patients already adequately controlled on both inhaled corticosteroids & long-acting β2-agonists. Symptomatic treatment of patients w/ severe COPD (FEV1 <50% predicted normal) & a history of repeated exacerbations, who have significant symptoms despite regular therapy w/ long-acting bronchodilators.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly Asthma 1 or 2 puffs bd. Max daily dose: 4 puffs. COPD 2 puffs in the morning & 2 puffs in the evening.
Special Precautions
Acute asthma attacks. Cardiac arrhythmias especially 3rd degree AV block & tachyarrhythmias, idiopathic subvalvular aortic stenosis, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, severe heart disease particularly acute MI, ischaemic heart disease, CHF, occlusive vascular diseases particularly arteriosclerosis, arterial HTN, aneurysm. Known or suspected prolongation of the QTc inteval. Thyrotoxicosis, DM, phaeochromocytoma, untreated hypokalaemia. Active or quiescent pulmonary TB, fungal & viral airway infections. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Pharyngitis, oral candidiasis, headache, dysphonia.
Drug Interactions
Reduced effect w/ β-blockers. Additive effect w/ β-adrenergic drugs & theophylline. Prolong QTc interval & increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias w/ quinidine, disopyramide, procainamide, phenothiazines, antihistamines, MAOIs, TCAs. Impair cardiac tolerance towards β2-symptahomimetics w/ l-dopa, l-thyroxine, oxytocin & alcohol. Precipitate hypertensive reactions w/ furazolidone & procarbazine. Potentiate possible hypokalaemic effect w/ xanthine derivatives, steroids, diuretics & digitalis glycoside. Potential interaction w/ disulfiram or mebendazole.
