Per 10 mL Gaviscon liqd Na alginate 500 mg, Na bicarbonate 267 mg, Ca carbonate 160 mg. Per Gaviscon Extra Strength 500 chewable tab Na alginate 500 mg, Na bicarbonate 267 mg, Ca carbonate 160 mg. Per 10 mL Gaviscon Advance liqd Na alginate 1,000 mg, K bicarbonate 200 mg. Per Gaviscon Double Action chewable tab Na alginate 250 mg, Na bicarbonate 106.5 mg, Ca carbonate 187.5 mg
Indications/Uses
Heartburn, indigestion & acid regurgitation caused by gastric reflux, reflux oesophagitis, hiatus hernia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Gaviscon liqd Adult & childn >12 yr 10-20 mL, 6-12 yr 5-10 mL. Gaviscon Extra Strength chewable tab Adult ≥12 yr 1-2 tab. <12 yr On medical advice. Gaviscon Advance liqd Adult, elderly & childn ≥12 yr 5-10 mL. Childn <12 yr On medical advice. Gaviscon Double Action chewable tab Adult & childn ≥12 yr 2-4 tab up to 4 times daily. Childn <12 yr On medical advice. Pregnant & lactating women can take this product.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take after meals & at bedtime. Chew tab thoroughly before swallowing.
Special Precautions
Na/Ca restricted diet. Hypophosphatemia. Significant heart disease. Reduced amounts of gastric acid in the stomach. Severe kidney problems. Childn <12 yr. Gaviscon/Gaviscon Extra Strength/Gaviscon Double Action tab Phenylketonuria. Gaviscon Advance liqd K/Na restricted diet.
Adverse Reactions
Very rare: Anaphylactic, anaphylactoid, & hypersensitivity reactions eg, urticaria; abdominal pain, acid rebound, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting; rash pruritic. Not known: Alkalosis, hypercalcaemia, milk-alkali syndrome; resp effects eg, bronchospasm; constipation.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ actions of antibiotics (tetracyclines & fluoroquinolones), digoxin & β-blockers (atenolol, metoprolol, propranolol), Fe salts, thyroid hormones, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, penicillamine, glucocorticoid, chloroquine, estramustine & diphosphonates. Gaviscon Advance No known interaction w/ other medicines.
