Glimepiride
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-6 mg daily. Initial dose & dose titration: 1 mg once daily. Daily dose may be increased at intervals of 1-2 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before or during the 1st main meal of the day. Do not skip meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, diabetic coma. IDDM, diabetic ketoacidosis; severe renal impairment & hepatic dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Blood monitoring. Alcohol consumption. Thyroid & hormonal problems.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycaemia; temporary visual impairment; GI symptoms; skin hypersensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Insulin & other oral antidiabetics; ACE inhibitors, allopurinol, anabolic steroids & male sex hormones, chloramphenicol.
