Indications/Uses
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated w/ benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not open/chew/crush.
Special Precautions
Perform digital rectal exam & determine prostate specific antigen (PSA). Patients w/ history of orthostatic hypotension, severe renal & hepatic impairment. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) during cataract & glaucoma surgery. Concomitant w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors in patients known to be CYP2D6 poor metabolizers. Patients w/ history of sulfonamide allergy. May impair ability to drive & operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness. Palpitations, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, asthenia, headache, ejaculation disorder, rhinitis, rash, pruritus, urticaria, orthostatic hypotension. Rarely, syncope & angioedema.
Drug Interactions
Cimetidine, furosemide, diclofenac & warfarin. α1-adrenoceptor antagonists. Strong & moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors.
ATC Classification
G04CA02 - tamsulosin ; Belongs to the class of alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonists. Used in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy.
