Diltiazem HCl
Dosage/Direction for Use
Essential HTN (mild to moderate) Adult 100-200 mg once daily. Angina pectoris, variant angina pectoris Adult 100 mg once daily. May be increased to 200 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Severe CHF, 2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block or sick sinus syndrome, sinus arrest, sinoatrial block, pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
CHF, severe bradycardia (<50 beats/min) or 1st degree AV block, severe hypotension, severe hepatic & renal dysfunction. Abrupt w/drawal. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Bradycardia, AV block, facial hot flushes; GI disturbances, headache/dull headache; hypersensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives, nitrates, β-blockers, Rauwolfia & digitalis prep, antiarrhythmics, anesth; aprindin HCl, dihydropyridine Ca antagonists, triazolam, midazolam, carbamazepine, theophylline, cyclosporin, tacrolimus hydrate, phenytoin; rifampicin, cimetidine, HIV-PI, & muscle relaxants.
