Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to irbesartan or hydrochlorothiazide, sulfonamide-related drugs. Severe liver or kidney problems, difficulty in producing urine, condition associated w/ persistently high Ca or low K levels blood. Concomitant use w/ aliskiren-containing products in patients w/ DM or renal impairment (GFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2). Pregnancy (3 mth). Childn & adolescent.
Special Precautions
Excessive vomiting or diarrhoea, kidney problems, including kidney transplantation; heart or liver problems; diabetes, SLE, primary aldosteronism. Dual blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) through the combined use of ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers or aliskiren is not recommended. ACE inhibitors & angiotensin II receptor blockers should not be used concomitantly in patients w/ diabetic nephropathy. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea/vomiting, abnormal urination, fatigue, dizziness (including when getting up from a lying or sitting position), raised levels of an enzyme that measures the muscle and heart function (creatine kinase) or raised levels of substances that measure kidney function (BUN, creatinine).
Drug Interactions
Lithium; K supplements, salt substitutes containing K, K-sparing medicines or other diuretic, laxatives, medicines for the treatment of gout, vit D supplements, medicines to control heart rhythm, medicines for diabetes (oral agents or insulins). Higher frequency of adverse events w/ combined use of ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, or aliskiren.
