Hypersensitivity. Conditions linked to hyperkalaemia (eg, restricted excretory kidney function, dehydration, Addison's disease, Adynamia episodica hereditaria, sickle cell anaemia, metabolic imbalances in the acid region); elevated blood K level due to movement of K from the intracellular to the extracellular space ie, from cells to the blood.
Known impairment of the oesophagus or the GI tract. Check mineral & acid base balances, cardiac rhythm & kidney function, particularly in elderly patients, prior to treatment & during treatment initially in shorter intervals & later in longer intervals. Pregnancy & lactation.
