Indications and Dosage
Intramuscular
Susceptible infections
Adult: 2 g/day in 2 divided doses.
Child: 50-100 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses.

Intravenous
Susceptible infections
Adult: 2-6 g/day in 2-3 divided doses.
Child: 50-100 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses.

Intravenous
Meningitis
Child: 100 mg/kg as loading dose.
Renal Impairment
Intravenous:
Susceptible infections: Haemodialysis patient: 15 mg/kg at end of each dialysis.
CrClDosage
>3015 mg/kg every 12-24 hr
<1015 mg/kg every 36-48 hr
10-3015 mg/kg every 24-36 hr
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Monitor bleeding time and give prophylaxis with vitamin K. Pregnancy and lactation. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoprothrombinaemia, serious bleeding episodes. Fever, pain at inj site, diarrhoea, cutaneous eruption, eosinophilia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol.
Lab Interference
False-positive results for direct Coombs' test.
Action
Description: Latamoxef is an oxacephalosporin with antimicrobial spectrum of activity similar to 3rd generation cephalosporins. It also inhibits beta-lactamases.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Well absorbed (IM).
Distribution: Enters the CSF.
Metabolism: Not metabolised.
Excretion: Via urine (75%, as unchanged drug) and via biliary tract; 2 hr (half-life).
