Lacidipine
Indications/Uses
HTN either alone or in combination w/ other antihypertensive agents, including β-adrenoceptor antagonists, diuretics & ACE inhibitors.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 2 mg once daily; may be increased to 4 mg & if necessary to 6 mg. Hepatic impairment Initially 2 mg once daily. Renal impairment No dose modification required. Elderly Initially 2 mg once daily, increasing to 4-6 mg daily based on clinical response.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Congenital or documented acquired QT prolongation. Not for secondary prevention of MI. Efficacy & safety in the treatment of malignant HTN has not been established. Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, flushing, oedema, dizziness & palpitations.
Drug Interactions
Additive hypotensive effect w/ other antihypertensive agents (eg, diureitcs, β-adrenoceptor antagonists or ACE inhibitors). Increased plasma conc w/ cimetidine. Altered bioavailability w/ grapefruit juice.
