Coagulation factor IX (human)
Indications/Uses
Treatment of haemorrhages, for use in surgery, & as prophylaxis in patients w/ haemophilia B.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Minor haemorrhage 20-30 IU/kg once daily for 1-2 days. Moderate to severe haemorrhage 30-50 IU/kg once to bd for 1-5 days. Minor surgery Loading dose: 40-60 IU/kg. Maintenance: 15-40 IU/kg once to bd or as continuous infusion for 7-10 days. Major surgery Loading dose: 70-100 IU/kg Maintenance: 20-90 IU/kg once to bd or as continuous infusion for 10-12 days. Prophylaxis 25-40 IU/kg twice wkly.
Special Precautions
Severe allergy to factor IX concentrates. Potential risk of thrombosis. History of fibrinolysis, MI, disseminated intravascular coagulation or liver disease. Monitor for inhibitor development. Immunize patients w/ hepatitis A & B vaccine prior to treatment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
