Indications/Uses
Relief of w/drawal symptoms & reduction of cravings for nicotine associated w/ smoking cessation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Heavy smokers One 25 mg/16 hr patch daily for the 1st 8 wk, then one 15 mg/16 hr patch daily for the next 2 wk, followed by one 10 mg/16 hr patch daily for the last 2 wk. Light smokers One 15 mg/16 hr patch daily for the 1st 8 wk, followed by one 10 mg/16 hr patch daily for the last 4 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Serious CV event or hospitalization for a CV complaint in the previous 4 wk; uncontrolled HTN. Liver or kidney disease. Overactive thyroid gland or phaechromocytoma. Skin disorders eg, psoriasis, eczema or hives covering a large area of the skin. Acute stomach or duodenal ulcer. Diabetes. Childn <18 yr. Should not be used by non-smokers.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, rash, urticaria.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, tacrine, clozapine or ropinirole, insulin, imipramine, olanzapine, clomipramine, fluvoxamine, flecainide or pentazocine.
