Indications/Uses
Treatment of reflux oesophagitis, duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer. Long-term treatment of pathological gastric hypersecretion associated w/ Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent Reflux oesophagitis 20 mg once daily for 4 wk. Severe reflux oesophagitis 40 mg once daily for 8 wk. Duodenal ulcer/benign gastric ulcer 20 mg once daily for 4 wk. May be increased to 40 mg once daily for additional 4 wk if healing has not occurred. Recurrent duodenal ulcer 20 mg once daily for up to 1 yr. Gastric hypersecretory (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome) 60 mg once daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Possibility of gastric malignancy should be ruled out before starting treatment. Chronic, current or history of hepatic disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Anemia, eosinopenia, leukocytosis, neutropenia, pancytopenia or thrombocytopenia, haematuria, proteinuria, UTI; abdominal pain & colic; asthenia, CNS disturbances; chest pain; GI disturbances; skin rash or itching.
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption of ampicillin esters, iron salts, ketoconazole. Decreased hepatic metabolism of anticoagulants, diazepam, phenytoin. Increased leukopenic &/or thrombocytopenic effect w/ bone marrow depressants.
