Indications/Uses
Allergic, dermatologic, rheumatic & other conditions amenable to corticosteroid therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 20-40 mg daily, may increase to 60-80 mg daily. Maintenance: 5-20 mg daily. Long-term therapy: Max 40 mg/day as single dose or in 2-4 divided doses. Childn Initially 0.5 mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses; may be doubled or trebled if necessary. Maintenance: 0.125-0.25 mg/kg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Active peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychoses or severe psychoneuroses, active or quiescent TB; acute or uncontrolled infection; live vaccines.
Special Precautions
HTN, CHF, DM, epilepsy, chronic renal failure, uraemia, hepatic impairment, GI disease, myasthenia gravis. Elderly; pregnancy & lactation. Avoid abrupt withdrawal. May mask signs of infection.
Adverse Reactions
Fluid & salt retention, edema, HTN; amenorrhea, hyperhidrosis; mental disturbances; acute pancreatitis; aseptic osteonecrosis; muscle weakness; Cushingoid state; raised IOP; visual disturbances; local atrophy; increased appetite; growth retardation.
Drug Interactions
Efficacy may be reduced by phenytoin, phenobarb, rifampicin. Corticoids may reduce the effects of diuretics, hypoglycemics, anticholinesterases, salicylates.

H02AB06 - prednisolone ; Belongs to the class of glucocorticoids. Used in systemic corticosteroid preparations.
