Doxazosin mesylate
Indications/Uses
Treatment of HTN; urinary outflow obstruction & obstructive & irritative symptoms associated w/ benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult HTN 1 mg once a day, may be increased every 2 wk, titrating upwards to 2, 4, 8 & 16 mg (max) once a day. BPH 1 mg once a day; increased to 2 mg afterwards to 4 mg & 8 mg (max) once a day, should be titrated at 1- to 2-wk intervals.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hepatic & renal function impairment.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to other quinazolines (prazosin, terazosin). Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs especially indomethacin; cimetidine; hypotension-producing medications; sympathomimetics.
