May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Resp depression esp in the presence of cyanosis & excessive bronchial secretion. Presence of acute alcoholism, head injuries & conditions in which intracranial pressure is raised. Concomitant w/ MAOIs. Pregnancy. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Decreased resp reserves & should not be given in acute bronchial asthma attack or in heart failure secondary to chronic lung disease, hypothyroidism, adrenocortical insufficiency, impaired kidney or liver function, prostatic hypertrophy, shock or inflammatory or obstructive bowel disorders, myasthenia gravis. Not for minor pain. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal or stomach pain, anorexia, asthenia, CNS stimulation, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness or vertigo, drowsiness, dry mouth, dyspepsia, headache, nausea, pruritus, skin rash, sweating & vomiting. May develop tolerance & addiction.
