Cholestyramine resin
Indications/Uses
Reduction of elevated serum cholesterol in patient w/ primary hypercholesterolemia. Symptomatic control of bile acid induced diarrhoea, relief of pruritus associated w/ partial biliary obstruction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 4 g 1-6 times/day. Reconstitution: 4 g in 120-180 mL of water.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Do not take in dry form. Mix w/ 150 mL water or fruit juice, stir to a uniform consistency before taking.
Contraindications
Complete biliary obstruction.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, distention, bloating, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, rashes.
