Indications/Uses
Falciparum malaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, elderly, childn ≥12 yr 600 mg 8 hrly for 7 days. Childn ≤11 yr 10 mg/kg 8 hrly for 7 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ food to minimise GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, haemoglobinuria, optic neuritis, tinnitus, myasthenia gravis.
Special Precautions
Atrial fibrillation or other serious heart disease, chronic & uncontrolled malaria. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation. Do not use for cramps during pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Tinnitus, impaired hearing, rash, headache, nausea, visual, GI or CNS disturbances, cardiotoxicity.
Drug Interactions
Amantadine, antiarrhythmics, moxifloxacin, rifampicin, anticoagulants, terfenadine, mefloquine, chloroquine, primaquine, pimozide, thioridazine, digoxin, ciclosporin, hypoglycaemics, suxamethonium, cimetidine.
