Rabeprazole
Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal ulcer 20 mg once daily in the morning for 4 wk. Stomach ulcer 20 mg once daily in the morning for 6 wk. Erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GORD) 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Long-term treatment of GORD Maintenance dose: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. Relief of symptoms of moderate to very severe GORD 10 mg once daily for 4 wk. If symptoms return, take one 10 mg tablet when needed for control of symptoms. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 60 mg once daily. Max: 120 mg (60 mg bd). Treatment of infections caused by H. pylori when given in combination w/ antibiotic therapy 20 mg bd in combination w/ 2 antibiotics. Recommended combination: Rabeprazole Sandoz 20 mg + clarithromycin 500 mg + amoxicillin 1 g, taken together bd for 7 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not crush/chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ atazanavir. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
Exclude possibility of tumours in the gullet or stomach before starting treatment. Consult w/ a physician at regular intervals if patient is on long-term treatment. Assess liver function. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness; inability to sleep; cough, sore throat, runny & stuffy nose; diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, stomachache, constipation, flatulence; nonspecific &/or back pain; infection; weakness, flu-like illness.
