Indications/Uses
Osteoporosis in women after menopause even if osteoporosis is severe. Reduces the risk of spinal & hip fractures. Osteoporosis in men.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab once wkly.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 30 min before the 1st food/drink/medication of the day w/ a full glass of plain water & remain in an upright position for at least 30 min. Swallow whole, do not chew/suck.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, below normal level of blood Ca, severe kidney problems. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients unable to stand or sit upright for at least 30 min, conditions of abnormal bone mineral absorption, conversion &/or excretion eg lack of vit D & parathyroid hormone abnormalities; previous problems w/ gullet eg pain or difficulty in swallowing  food; pain, swelling or numbness of the jaw, "heavy jaw feeling" or loosening of tooth; under dental treatment or will undergo dental surgery.  Childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Severe swellings of deep skin layers (angioedema), severe skin reactions; indigestion, sick feeling; stomach pain, cramps or discomfort; constipation, feeling of fullness, bloating, diarrhea; pain in bones, muscles or joints; headache.
Drug Interactions
Reduce the effect of risedronate w/ medicines containing Ca, Mg, Al, Fe.
