Indications/Uses
Treatment of hypercholesterolemia where diet & exercise are inadequate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. May increase up to 40 mg once daily (max). Reduce risk of heart attack, stroke or related health problems 20 mg daily. Childn 10-17 yr Initially 5 mg. May increase up to 20 mg once daily (max).
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hepatic & severe renal impairment. Myopathy. Concomitant w/ ciclosporin. Pregnancy & lactation. 40 mg Muscular spasm, moderate renal impairment, thyroid disorder, alcoholism. Concomitant w/ fibrates. Asian race.
Special Precautions
Severe resp failure. Concomitant w/ lopinavir, ritonavir. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactose intolerance. Elderly >70 yr. Childn <10 yr, <18 yr (40 mg).
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, constipation, feeling sick & weak, stomach & muscle pain, hyperproteinuria, diabetes.
Drug Interactions
Ciclosporin, warfarin, gemfibrozil, fenofibrate, ezetimibe, erythromycin, OCs, hormone replacement therapy, lopinavir, ritonavir. Indigestion remedies.
