Indications/Uses
Prophylactic treatment of vascular headaches eg, typical or atypical migraine, vasomotor headache, cluster headache (Horton’s syndrome).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 0.5 mg/day; increase gradually as required up to 1.5 mg in divided doses or a single dose at night, in refractory cases up to 3-4.5 mg/day in 3 divided doses. Childn Initially 0.5 mg, may be increased to 1.5 mg/day in divided doses or 1 mg as a single dose at night.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Childn <2 yr.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma; urinary retention; epilepsy; rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, severe lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Appetite stimulating effect & increase in body wt; sedation (including somnolence), dizziness; nausea, dry mouth; fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Enhance central effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines & alcohol.
