Per mL Brinzolamide 10 mg, brimonidine tartrate 2 mg
Indications/Uses
Decrease elevated IOP in adult patients w/ open-angle glaucoma or ocular HTN for whom monotherapy is insufficient.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly 1 drop in affected eye/s bd.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use of MAOIs, antidepressants eg, TCA & mianserin. Severe renal impairment, hyperchloraemic acidosis. Neonates & infants <2 yr.
Special Precautions
Ocular allergic reactions, delayed ocular hypersensitivity. Not recommended in patients w/ narrow-angle glaucoma. Careful monitoring of patients w/ compromised corneas. Avoid wearing contact lenses. Patients w/ severe or unstable & uncontrolled CV disease; depression, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, Raynaud's phenomenon, orthostatic hypotension or thromboangiitis obliterans. Reports of acid-base disturbances. Hepatic & renal impairment. Concomitant use w/ antihypertensives &/or cardiac glycosides. Contains benzalkonium Cl. May impair ability to perform tasks requiring alertness &/or physical coordination. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Ocular hyperaemia & allergic type reactions, dysgeusia. Somnolence, dizziness; keratitis, eye pain, ocular discomfort, blurred vision, abnormal vision, conjunctival blanching; dry mouth.
Drug Interactions
Contraindicated w/ MAOIs & antidepressants which affect noradrenergic transmission (eg, TCAs & mianserin). TCAs may blunt the ocular hypotensive response. Additive or potentiating effect w/ CNS depressants (eg, alcohol, barbiturates, opiates, sedatives or anaesth). Use w/ caution in patients taking drugs affecting metabolism & uptake of circulating amines (eg, chlorpromazine, methylphenidate, reserpine, SNRIs). Reduced pulse & BP w/ concomitant use of antihypertensives & cardiac glycosides. Use w/ caution when initiating concomitant adrenergic receptor agonists or antagonists eg, isoprenaline, prazosin. Additive effect on known systemic effects of carbonic anhydrase inhibition w/ oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Inhibited metabolism w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, itraconazole, clotrimazole, ritonavir & troleandomycin).
