Indications/Uses
Treatment of external infections of the eye & its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Ophth soln Mild disease 1 or 2 drops every 4 hr. Severe infection 2 drops hrly until improvement. Treatment should be reduced prior to discontinuation. Ophth oint Mild disease Small amount of oint bd or tds. Severe infection Small amount of oint every 3-4 hr until improvement. Treatment should be reduced prior to discontinuation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tobramycin or to aminoglycosides.
Special Precautions
Not for inj or ingestion. Cross-hypersensitivity w/ other aminoglycosides. Discontinue treatment if hypersensitivity develops. If concomitantly administered w/ systemic aminoglycosides, monitor total serum conc. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Contact lens wear is not recommended during treatment. May affect ability to drive or use machines. Pregnancy & lactation. Ophth soln: Contains benzalkonium Cl.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
Additive toxicity w/ other neurotoxic, ototoxic or nephrotoxic systemic, oral or topical drugs. Topical corticosteroids w/ tobramycin may mask clinical signs of bacterial, fungal, or viral infections & may suppress hypersensitivity reactions.
