Indications/Uses
Relief of moderate or severe pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr Acute pain (post-op) 1-2 cap tds-qds. Chronic pain (associated cancer) Initially 1-2 cap then 2 cap 4-6 hrly. Elderly 1-2 cap 9 hrly. Renal or hepatic impariment 1-2 cap 12 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Use of alcohol, sleeping tab, strong analgesics or drugs for mental illness. MAOIs w/in 2 wk. Severe hepatic, renal or resp problems. Epilepsy. Narcotics withdrawal. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Alcohol or substance abuse. Epilepsy, head injury or raised intracranial pressure. Hepatic, renal or resp problems which are not severe. Shock following severe injury or blood loss.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reaction, slow breathing. Dizziness, feeling or being sick. Increased sweating, paraesthesia, tremor, tiredness, drowsiness, sleepiness, headache, stomachache, dry mouth, constipation.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs w/in 2 wk. Opioids & other strong analgesics, drugs which slow reactions & breathing. Morphine, pethidine, buprenorphine, nalbuphine, pentazocine. Carbamazepine, sleeping tab, warfarin. Drugs for depression, anxiety or mental illness.
