Dextromethorphan HBr
Relief of resistant, dry & unproductive cough for adults & childn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 5-10 mL every 4 hr. Max: 40 mL in 24 hr. Childn 6-12 yr 2.5-5 mL every 4 hr. Max: 20 mL in 24 hr.
Concomitant use w/ MAOIs or w/in 2 wk after stopping treatment.
Special Precautions
Should not be given for persistent or chronic cough associated w/ smoking, emphysema or asthma; or when coughing w/ excessive secretions. Patients w/ asthma. Avoid taking w/ alcoholic drinks. Impaired hepatic function. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; resp depression (very high doses).
Drug Interactions
Possible systemic reactions w/ mexiletine, domperidone, metoclopramide, certain hypnotics & anxiolytics, & alcohol.
