Live lactic acid bacteria, bifidobacteria from 8 different strains.
Each capsule of VSL#3 contains 112.5 billion live lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. There are 8 different strains of bacteria which were specially selected for VSL#3: See table.

Each sachet of VSL#3 contains 450 billion live lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. There are 8 different strains of bacteria which were specially selected for VSL#3: Streptococcus thermophilus, bifidobacteria (B. breve, B. longum*, B. infantis*), lactobacilli (L. acidophilus, L. plantarum, L. paracasei, L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus**).

VSL#3 does NOT contain soy, gluten, lactose or milk products.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Capsule: hydroxylpropylmethylcellulose (HPMC vegetable capsule), cornstarch, anti-caking agents (stearate magnesium, silicon dioxide and stearic acid), microcrystalline cellulose.
Powder: maltose, cornstarch and anti-caking agent (silicon dioxide).
VSL#3 is intended to be used as a medical food for the dietary management of children and adults with UC and/or IBS, as well as pouchitis (adults only) and hepatic encephalopathy (adults only).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended use: The recommended daily intake of VSL#3 is 1 - 2 capsules or sachets a day. Most people start with 1 capsule or sachet per day for approximately 2 weeks and then adjust as needed.
Directions: When the patient starts taking VSL#3, bloating may be experienced. If bloating is experienced, the patient may need to reduce the daily intake to allow for this adjustment.
Powder: Open the sachet and stir the contents into cold water or any non-fizzy drink or food and consume immediately.
Special Precautions
Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements should not be used as substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not use if the capsule or sachet is broken or damaged.
Drug Interactions
VSL#3 is believed to be compatible with all types of drugs. If taken with antibiotics, it will not cause harm but the viability of the bacteria in VSL#3 may be reduced. This is because antibiotics can inactivate the bacteria in VSL#3.
VSL#3 should be stored in a refrigerator (2-8°C). If unopened and stored refrigerated, the product can be used up until the "Exp. Date" or "Best before date" shown on the base of pack. VSL#3 can be stored at room temperature (up to 25°C) for up to 7 days without adversely affecting potency.
