Pyritinol diHCl monohydrate.
Each 5 mL of oral liquid contain pyritinol 80.5 mg corresponding to pyritinol dihydrochloride monohydrate 100 mg.
Sugar Replacement: Sorbitol.
Pharmacology: Mode of Actions: Encephabol exerts a beneficial effect on various regions of the neuronal metabolism, enhances the activity of the central cholinergic system and protects the nerve cells in cerebral deficiencies eg, hypoxia. Encephabol normalizes the blood fluidity parameters and raises the regional cerebral blood flow in ischemic areas.
Encephabol increases the vigilance by activation of cortical and subcortical structures of the brain and improves the most important clinical symptoms of impaired brain functions.
Disturbances of cerebral circulation eg, craniocerebral traumas, condition after brain surgery, cerebrovascular attack and cerebral degenerative processes, prophylaxis of postnarcotic confusional states, condition after cerebral anoxia (eg, following cardiac arrest).
Tab: Adults: 2 drag 3 times daily.
Children 6-15 years: 1 drag 3 times daily.
Oral Liquid: Adults: 10 mL 3 times daily.

Administration: In order to avoid sleep disturbances, children should not be given the last daily dose in the late afternoon or evening.
The tablets are best swallowed whole with a little liquid during or after meal. Because of the gradual onset of action, the duration of therapy should be at least 6-8 weeks. In chronic diseases the treatment may be continued over longer periods of time.
In Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Attention is to be Paid to the Following Contraindications: Severe kidney and liver function disorders; serious changes in the blood count. Autoimmune diseases eg, lupus erythematosus, myasthenia, pemphigus, and case histories thereof.
Liquid: Owing to the sorbitol content, do not administer in cases of known fructose intolerance.
In rare cases, various forms of allergic reactions, mainly rashes of the skin, rise in temperature; gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders; disturbances of taste; symptoms of over excitability; single cases of pemphigus-like skin reactions and lichen planus.
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis show a greater tendency to develop undesirable effects under pyritinol treatment. Additionally, in these patients typical side effects of penicillamine-like antirheumatic drugs (eg, proteinuria, reduction in the blood platelet and white cell count) have been observed very rarely. Urine status and blood picture should therefore be checked regularly in these patients. In cases of side-effects the medicament should be discontinued as a precaution and the physician should be consulted.
In patients with rheumatoid arthritis being treated with penicillamine, tiopronine, gold preparations or levamisol, concomitant administration of pyritinol can potentiate the side effects typical of these substances.
Store at temperature below 25° C.
