Salbutamol sulfate
Indications/Uses
Treatment of acute attack of bronchospasm & routine management of chronic bronchospasm unresponsive to conventional therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
2.5 mg 3-4 times daily by nebulisation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Premature labour or threatened abortion during 1st & 2nd trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Hyperthyroidism; CV disease; aneurysms; diabetes; closed-angle glaucoma. Patients receiving antihypertensives or using halogenated anesth. Thyrotoxicosis; hypokalemia. Monitor serum K levels. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Fine tremor of skeletal muscle, particularly the hands, slight tachycardia, palpitations; transient muscle cramps; hypersensitivity reactions; mouth & throat irritation.
Drug Interactions
Antagonised effects by propranolol & β-blockers. Enhanced by xanthines. Potentiated effects by other sympathomimetics, MAOIs & TCAs.
