Ondansetron HCl
Indications/Uses
Management of chemotherapy- & radiotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting; post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prevention of post-op nausea & vomiting 1st dose: 8 mg tab 1 hr prior to induction of anesth, followed by 2 further doses of 8 mg tab at 8-hr intervals. Prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting Adult Highly emetogenic chemotherapy Initially 8 mg as slow IV inj or 15-min infusion immediately before chemotherapy followed by 1 mg/hr continuous IV infusion for up to 24 hr or 2 further 8 mg as slow IV or 15-min infusion 4-hr apart. Or then followed by 8 mg orally twice daily for up to 5 days. Less emetogenic chemotherapy 8 mg as slow IV inj or 15-min infusion immediately before chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg orally twice daily for up to 5 days. Radiotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting 8 mg tab 3 times daily 1-2 hr prior to radiotherapy. Childn >4 yr 5 mg/mL by IV inj 15 min immediately prior to chemotherapy, followed by 4 mg orally 12 hrly for up to 5 days.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy (especially during 1st trimester) & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, constipation, burning sensation of the head & epigastrum, sedation, diarrhea.

A04AA01 - ondansetron ; Belongs to the class of serotonin (5HT3) antagonists. Used for the prevention of nausea and vomiting.
