Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult : PO Peripheral vascular disease; Dementia 120-240 mg/day in divided doses.
Dosage Details
Oral
Dementia, Peripheral vascular disease
Adult: 120-240 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food. Take just before meals.
Special Precautions
Patient w/ epilepsy, pre-existing bleeding disorder. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nervous: Headache, dizziness, convulsions.
CV: Palpitations.
GI: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea.
Haematologic: Bleeding disorders.
Dermatologic: Pruritus, rash, allergic reaction.
Drug Interactions
Prolonged bleeding time when used concomitantly w/ warfarin, acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen. Decrease serum concentration of both valproic acid and phenytoin resulting in seizures. Enhance adverse effects of vit K antagonists.
Action
Description: Ginkgo biloba contains medicinal constitutents such as flavonoids, which act as a free-radical scavenger, and terpene trilactones (e.g. ginkgolides), as platelet-activating factor inhibitor. It is believed to have beneficial effect on circulatory and cognitive disorders.
