Indications/Uses

Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Pneumonia, UTI, gynaecological infections, endometritis, skin & skin structure infections 500 mg IV 8 hrly. Nosocomial pneumonia, peritonitis, neutropenic patient, septicaemia 1 g IV 8 hrly. Meningitis 2 g IV 8 hrly. Childn >3 mth-12 yr 10-20 mg/kg 8 hrly. >50 kg Adult dose. Meningitis 40 mg/kg 8 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Monotherapy in critically ill patients w/ known or suspected Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections. Cross-allergy to penicillins & cephalosporins. Monitor transaminase & bilirubin levels in patients w/ hepatic disease. History of GI complaints, particularly colitis. Co-administration w/ other potentially nephrotoxic drugs. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn >3 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Inflammation, thrombophlebitis & inj site pain. Rash, pruritus, urticaria. Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, leucopenia, headache, paraesthesia, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia. Oral & vag candidiasis.
