Granisetron HCl
Indications/Uses
Prevention of acute & delayed nausea & vomiting associated w/ chemotherapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 mg twice daily or 2 mg once daily, up to 1 wk after chemotherapy. 1st dose given up to 1 hr prior to chemotherapy. Max: 9 mg.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
May reduce intestinal motility. Patients w/ signs of acute intestinal obstruction must be monitored after administration. Cross-sensitivity between 5-HT3 antagonists. Not recommended in patients w/ rare hereditary problems including galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Serotonin syndrome may occur after joint use w/ other serotonergic drugs. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, constipation; increased liver transaminases. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions (eg, rashes, anaphylaxis).
