Lincomycin
Indications/Uses
Serious infections caused by Staph, Strep, Pneumococci.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 cap 3 times daily. May increase to 1 cap 4 times daily. Childn & infant >1 mth 30 mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses. May increase to 60 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Infections due to Strep β-hemolyticus Continue therapy for ≥10 days.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals w/ a full glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Infant & neonate.
Special Precautions
Colitis. Patients w/ history of asthma or other allergic reactions. Not to be used for non-bacterial infections eg, URTI. Discontinue use in cases of super infections &/or diarrhea. Perform liver & renal function tests & blood counts on long-term use. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Colitis, stomatitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, enterocolitis, anal pruritus; neutropenia, leucopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, purpura; angioneurotic edema, serum sickness, anaphylaxis; rash, urticaria, vaginitis; abnormal LFT, jaundice; azotemia, oliguria, tinnitus, vertigo.
Drug Interactions
Neuromuscular blockers, erythromycin.
