Indications/Uses
Reduction of elevated total cholesterol & LDL in patient w/ primary hypercholesterolemia when response to diet lipid & cholesterol or other nonpharmacological measures has been inadequate. Reduction of elevated cholesterol levels in patient w/ combined hypercholesterolemia & hypertriglyceridemia when hypercholesterolemia is the abnormality of more concern.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 20 mg as single dose at night. Increase if needed after a 4-wk interval to max 80 mg/day to be taken in 2 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminase. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Perform liver function test during therapy. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, nausea, dyspepsia, vertigo, dizziness, rash, eye irritation, ophthalmoplegia, alopecia.
Drug Interactions
Immunosuppressants, gemfibrozil, niacin, erythromycin.

C10AA02 - lovastatin ; Belongs to the class of HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. Used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
